McHugh, Chiasson Earn MASCAC Track & Field Weekly Honors

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University juniors Laura McHugh and Melissa Chiasson earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) track and field weekly honors.  McHugh was chosen as the MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Chiasson was selected as the MASCAC Women's Outdoor Field Co-Athlete of the Week.

McHugh won the 200-meter dash at the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational and was a part of two relay teams that also captured titles. The Mansfield, Massachusetts native posted a time of 26.59 seconds in the 200.  The Bears' 4x100 relay squad posted a winning time of 50.76 seconds, while the 4x400 relay recorded a first place time of 4:11.76.

McHugh was a part of the Bears' record-setting 4x200 relay team which qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships with a time of 1:45.99 during the indoor season.  She also helped set the school record in the 4x100 relay with a time of 49.97 seconds during the 2012 outdoor season.

Chiasson placed in all three events she was entered in at the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational this past weekend.  The Maynard, Massachusetts native won the hammer throw, placed second in the shot put, and finished third in the discus.

Chiasson broke the school record and qualified for the New England Championships and ECAC Championships in the hammer throw with a toss of 154 feet, 0.42 inches (46.95 meters).  She eclipsed the Bears' previous standard of 150 feet, one inch set by Alison Fletcher in 2003. Chiasson also registered a put of 31 feet, 4.37 inches (9.56 meters) in the shot and a distance of 108 feet, 5.18 inches (33.05 meters) in the discus.

Chiasson also holds the school indoor record in the weight throw with a mark of 50 feet, 3.50 inches set earlier this year.

The outdoor season continues for Chiasson, McHugh, and the Bears as they travel to Fitchburg State University for the Eric Loeschner Memorial Meet.
