BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman Lauren Geary has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week. Geary shares the weekly honor along with Framingham State University sophomore Zoe Reilly.
A native of Hull, Massachusetts, Geary notched five goals and two assists for seven points to go along with 18 ground balls, seven caused turnovers and an impressive 33 draw controls in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears.
Geary tallied a goal, seven ground balls, eighth draws and two caused turnovers in an 8-5 victory over UNE, and two goals, five ground balls, five draws and three caused turnovers in an 11-9 overtime victory over Plymouth State. She capped off the week with two goals, two assists, six ground balls, two caused turnovers and a school-record 20 draws in a 24-7 MASCAC win over Worcester State.
Geary eclipsed Corinne Baker's previous BSU single-game mark of 15 draws set in 2004 against Elms College. She also broke Lauryn Serrarore's 2008 BSU single-season mark of 86 draws as she now has 87 on the year.
In nine games for the Bears this season, Geary has amassed 20 goals and nine assists for 29 points to go along with 42 ground balls, 87 draws and 22 caused turnovers.
Geary ranks among the top five in all of Division III in draws. She leads the MASCAC in draws as well, and ranks second in the conference in both ground balls and caused turnovers. Geary is also currently tied for seventh in the league in goals and scoring, and tied for eighth in assists.
The BSU women's lacrosse team is a perfect 9-0 on the season and tied atop the MASCAC standings with a 2-0 conference mark. The Bears host non-conference foe Salve Regina University on Monday night at seven.
