BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University sophomore goaltender Victoria Moore has been selected as the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Defensive Player of the Week.
Moore went 2-0 with 13 saves and an impressive 3.33 goals against average last week to help lead the Bears to their fifth straight NEWLA Tournament title. The Duxbury, Massachusetts native made four saves in a 13-2 semifinal win over Fitchburg State and recorded nine saves in a dramatic 6-5 overtime victory over Westfield State in the championship game.
In 17 games which include 12 starts, Moore is 8-5 with 77 saves and ranks 18th in all of Division III with a 7.82 goals against average. She is tied for the NEWLA lead in both winning percentage (.615) and appearances and is third in the league in save percentage (.445).
By virtue of the NEWLA Tournament championship, Bridgewater State advances to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the third straight season and fourth time in program history. The Bears (12-7) travel to Trinity College to take on the Bantams in first round action on Wednesday night at seven.
