Victoria Moore Named NEWLA Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University sophomore goaltender Victoria Moore has been selected as the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Defensive Player of the Week.

Moore turned aside seven shots and allowed just four goals in a 15-4 NEWLA win over Worcester State last week.  The Duxbury, Massachusetts native also recorded a ground ball in Bridgewater’s only game on the week as the Bears remained unbeaten in league play.

In 11games for the Bears this season, Moore has posted a record of 4-4 with 58 saves and a 9.30 goals against average.  She currently leads the NEWLA in goals against average and is tied for second in games played.  Moore also ranks third in the league in save percentage (.436) and fourth in wins.

Moore has appeared in 15 games over her first two seasons with the Bears.  She has 73 saves to her credit as well as a career 9.26 goals against average.

The BSU women’s lacrosse team is presently 6-6 on the season and undefeated in the NEWLA with a 4-0 Alliance mark.  The Bears, who have won each of their last three games, are a ½ game back of Westfield State (5-0 NEWLA) in the conference standings.

Bridgewater will take on NEWLA foe Mass. Maritime Academy on Tuesday night at seven in Buzzards Bay.  The Bears then host Mount Holyoke College in a non-conference game on Thursday evening at six, before capping off the week with a key Alliance matchup versus Westfield on Saturday afternoon at one at Swenson Field.
