BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman attack Riley Cachelin has been selected as the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Rookie of the Week.
Cachelin notched eight goals and three assists to go along with four ground balls in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears which included a pair of NEWLA road wins over Salem State University and Elms College.
The Westwood, Massachusetts native tallied four goals and a pair of helpers as well as two ground balls in a 16-9 victory at Salem, and notched four goals, an assist and two ground balls in a 13-5 triumph over Elms as the Bears captured their fifth straight conference regular season title.
In 17 games for the Bears this season, Cachelin has totaled 28 goals and 13 assists for 41 points as she is tied for eighth in the NEWLA in assists.
Bridgewater is the top seed in this week’s NEWLA Tournament and will take on fourth seeded Fitchburg State in semifinal play on Wednesday evening at six. The Bears are vying for their fifth straight conference tournament championship and sixth overall.
Cachelin also earned NEWLA Rookie of the Week honors back on March 12th and again on March 19th.
