BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman attack Riley Cachelin has been selected as both the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week.
Cachelin notched three goals and a pair of assists to go along with three ground balls to help lead the Bears to their fifth straight NEWLA Tournament title last week. The Westwood, Massachusetts native tallied a goal and an assist as well as three ground balls in Bridgewater's 13-2 semifinal win over Fitchburg State, and scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in overtime, and added an assist in the Bears' 6-5 championship game victory over Westfield State.
Cachelin, who has earned the Rookie of the Week honor four times this season, has started all 19 games for the Bears. She currently has 31 goals and 15 assists for 46 points as she ranks eighth in the NEWLA in assists and is tied for 14th in scoring.
By virtue of the NEWLA Tournament championship, Bridgewater State advances to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the third straight season and fourth time in program history. The Bears travel to Trinity College to take on the Bantams in first round action on Wednesday night at seven.
