Plymouth Advance to ECAC Tournament Championship Game with 2-1 Win over Keene

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior forward Olivia Colborn (Lancaster, N.H.) tallied a pair of goals to lead third-seeded Plymouth State University to a 2-0 victory over #2 Keene State College in the semifinal round of the 2012 ECAC Division III New England Field Hockey Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field in Bridgewater.

With the win, Plymouth (12-7) advances to the tournament championship game as the Panthers will take on top seed and tournament host Bridgewater State University on Sunday at noon.  Keene State ends the season with an overall mark of 15-9.

Colborn notched her first marker of the day, an unassisted tally in the 20th minute, as the Panthers would take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Colborn made it a 2-0 game with just over eight minutes remaining in the contest.  Sophomore forward Kristen Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) set up the goal with a cross that evaded the Keene State netminder.  Colborn, stationed in front, easily deposited the shot into the unguarded net.

Keene cut the deficit to 2-1 with 1:48 left on the clock as freshman midfielder Haylie Dolan (West Brookfield, Mass.) rifled a shot from just inside the circle that deflected in off a Plymouth defender.

The Owls had a pair of penalty corner opportunities in the final minute, including one with no time remaining, but were unable to convert the equalizing tally.

Plymouth held a 20-10 shot advantage for the game (12-3 in the first half) as well as a 13-9 edge in penalty corners.

Junior goalkeeper Hilary Lemelin (Milan, N.H.) made five saves to notch her eighth win of the season for the Panthers.  Sophomore Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.) turned aside 11 shots between the pipes for the Owls.
