Shelby Farland Named to All-Little East Second Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior midfielder Shelby Farland has been voted on to the All-Little East Conference Field Hockey Second Team by the league's coaches.

Farland currently has produced 15 goals and five assists during the 2011 season for a total of 35 points.  The Fiskdale, Massachusetts product is tied for fifth in the Little in East in goals and ranks sixth in scoring.  She is also tied for fourth in game-winning goals with five.

In 56 games over three seasons with the Bears, Farland has amassed 26 goals, including nine-game winners, to go along with 11 assists for 63 points.

The Bridgewater State field hockey team is presently 12-6 on the campaign.  The Bears posted a 7-4 mark in Little East play and earned the fourth seed in the conference tournament, but were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Following LEC tournament play, Bridgewater was selected to the ECAC Division III New England Tournament as the number four seed in a six-team bracket.  The Bears will host fifth-seeded Wheaton College on Wednesday at 6:00 PM in the quarterfinals.

The ECAC appearance marks the program's eighth overall and third in the last five years.
