BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior second baseman Sean Riley has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Co-Player of the Week. Riley shares the weekly honor along with sophomore Bobby Rosano of Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Riley batted .353 (6-17) with two doubles, a triple, four runs scored and seven runs batted in during a 3-1 week for the Bears. The Fairhaven, Massachusetts native went 3-for-9 with a double, three runs and six RBI in a MASCAC sweep of MCLA, and was homer shy of the cycle and drove in a run in a 3-2 setback to Eastern Connecticut State. Riley also walked twice and scored a run in the Bears’ 7-5 win over UMass Boston.
In 25 games this season, Riley is batting .380 (38-100) with six doubles, two triples, three home runs, 17 runs, 22 RBI and five stolen bases. He leads the MASCAC in hits, RBI and home runs, and ranks third in slugging percentage and fifth in batting average. Riley is also tied for fourth in doubles and tied for fifth in triples.
In 70 games over two seasons at Bridgewater, Riley sports a career .376 (100-266) batting average with 11 home runs, 31 doubles, eight triples, 14 stolen bases, 69 runs scored and 62 RBI. He also owns a .677 slugging percentage and a .440 on base percentage.
Last season, Riley was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III All-America Second Team after leading the Bears to both the MASCAC regular season and tournament titles and a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament. He also garnered MASCAC Player of the Year honors and was an all-region selection for three different organizations; D3baseball.com, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA).
Riley batted .373 (62-166) in 2012 with eight homers, 25 doubles, six triples, 52 runs scored and 40 RBI a season ago. He tied for the Division III lead in doubles and finished fifth in total bases (123), 15th in slugging percentage (.741), 24th in runs scored, 28th in triples and 30th in home runs. Riley also set BSU single-season program marks for doubles, extra base hits, total bases (123) and games played (45).
The BSU baseball team is currently 14-10-1 on the season and tied for second in the MASCAC standings with a 5-3 conference mark. The Bears host non-conference rival UMass Dartmouth on Thursday afternoon at 3:30.
