PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- The Plymouth State University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at Foley Gymnasium.
The Panthers (8-4) are 7-4 versus the Bears (6-3) since 1997 as the two teams were meeting for the first time since 2019.
Plymouth cruised to a 25-13 win in the opening set, won the second game by score of 25-16 and completed the sweep with a decided 25-8 decision in the third set.
PSU freshman Sya McKay (Somersworth, N.H.) led all players with 12 kills to go along with two blocks (one solo) and pair of aces. McKay also posted a .409 hitting percentage.
Graduate student Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.) added ten kills and 13 assists for Plymouth while graduate student Ava Duymazlar (Center Harbor, N.H.) contributed three aces, five assists and 13 digs.
The Panthers also received 13 assists, three aced and ten digs from sophomore Danielle Emerson (Biddeford, Maine) as well as 11 digs and an ace from senior Veronika Castro Rodriguez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico).
Plymouth finished with nine aces and just three serving errors on the day while Bridgewater committed five serving errors and did not record an ace. The Panthers posted a .250 team hitting percentage and held the Bears to a -.022 attacking mark.
Sophomore Charlotte Sullivan (Hyannis, Mass.) paced the visitors with six kills as well as a match-best .429 hitting percentage and six blocks (five solo). Juniors Xin Ai Robinson (Kaiserslautern, Germany) and Ava Crane (Dartmouth, Mass.) combined for 16 assists for the Bears while classmate Lily Welch (Hanson, Mass.) notched ten digs, three kills and two blocks (one solo).
In upcoming action, the Bears open Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play on Tuesday night (6:00 PM) when they welcome the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy to the Tinsley Center. The Panthers entertain VTSU Lyndon on Wednesday evening at five o'clock.
