Coach Smith was named the Bears' head track and field coach as well as the assistant cross country coach prior to the 2007-2008 academic year. He served as the head coach for both the men's and women's track programs for five seasons from 2007 to 2012. Beginning with the 2012-2013 season, Smith will be skippering the men's indoor and outdoor track teams.
Smith is a 2006 graduate of Stonehill College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. At Stonehill, he was a four-time Northeast-10 All-Conference selection in both cross country and track as well as a three-time all-region selection in cross country. Smith currently holds the Chieftains' outdoor track record in the 10,000 meter run (31:04.77).
Presently a history teacher at Middleboro High School, Smith was an assistant coach for both cross country and track at Stonehill following his graduation. He instructed three All-American athletes during the 2006-2007 academic year.
