BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second straight week and third time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Alison Vautrin has been named the Little East Conference (LEC) Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week.
A native of Somerset, Massachusetts, Vautrin helped the Bears post a pair of Little East wins over Western Connecticut State and Southern Maine last week as she went 2-0 at fourth flight singles and 2-0 at third doubles. Bridgewater downed the Colonials of West Conn on the road, 9-0, and posted a 7-1 victory over the Huskies in Southern Maine.
Vautrin won both of her singles matches in straight sets as she notched a 6-1, 6-1 win over her opponent from West Conn as well as 6-2, 6-0 decision over her challenger from Southern Maine. She also teamed with sophomore Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) for an 8-0 third flight doubles triumph against the Colonials and an 8-1 victory over the Huskies.
Vautrin has burst onto the Little East women’s tennis scene in 2012 as she is currently 10-1 (7-0 LEC) in singles play and 11-3 (6-1 LEC) in doubles competition.
The BSU women’s tennis team (9-2, 7-0 LEC) will host non-conference foe Curry College on Thursday afternoon at 3:30. The Bears then wrap up regular season play with a key Little East match with Salem State University on Saturday at noon. The Bears lead the Vikings by a half game in the conference standings.
