PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Little East Conference play as the Bears blanked the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Courts.
Bridgewater improves to 5-2 on the season and 3-0 in the Little East, while RIC slips to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Junior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) paced the visitors with a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory at the top singles flight and teamed with senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) for an 8-4 win at first doubles. Hopp added a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at number five singles.
Senior Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.), freshman Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) also posted straight set wins in singles play at the second, fourth and sixth flights, respectively. Senior Brittney Hislop (Burley, Wash.) won in a three-set tie-breaker at the third spot, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.
Pereira and Hislop paired up for an 8-2 victory second flight doubles, while Vautrin and sophomore Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) posted an 8-4 decision at number three.
In upcoming action, Bridgewater travels to Little East rival UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon for a one o'clock match with the Beacons. RIC takes on non-conference foe Suffolk University on Thursday evening at six. The match will take place at the Buckingham, Browne and Nichols indoor courts.
