Jenna Williamson Named LEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University sophomore Jenna Williamson has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Williamson continued her unbeaten play against Little East opponents this season as she went 3-0 at both first flight singles and doubles to lead the Bears to a 3-0 record this past week. The Ludlow, Massachusetts product won each of her singles matches in straight sets and teamed with junior Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.) for the three doubles wins as the Bears improved to 6-0 in the LEC.

The BSU women’s tennis team opened the week with a 9-0 victory at Worcester State followed by an 8-1 triumph over UMass Boston and a 9-0 win against Southern Maine. In six Little East matches this season, the Bears are 34-2 (.944) in singles competition and a perfect 18-0 in doubles play.

Williamson has posted an 8-2 singles record as well as a 9-3 double mark through ten matches this season competing exclusively at the top flight.  She is unbeaten in six matches against Little East opponents in both singles and doubles play.

In two seasons as a member of the BSU women’s tennis team, Williamson is 22-3 (.880) in singles competition and 22-9 (.710) in doubles.  Last season she helped the Bears capture the Little East Tournament championship and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for just the second time in program history.

The BSU women’s tennis team wraps up regular season play this week with a pair of the Little East matches.  The Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday (3:30) and then head to Salem State University on Saturday (1:00) for the regular season finale.
