BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Recently, the Eastern Massachusetts Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (EMISCA) held its annual coaches clinic at Milford High School. The goal is to help high school coaches with useful tools, drills and techniques, offer assistance in team management, and give them tangible products to bring back to their programs.
In order to pull this off, EMISCA has enlisted national coaches from Division I programs such as Georgia and Georgetown. However, in order for this clinic to be a success, the regional organization also needs local representation, and BSU head swimming and diving coach, Mike Caruso, is always their first call.
Bryan King '87, G'91, longtime head coach (retired) at Hopkinton High School and former Bridgewater State assistant coach, praised Coach Caruso, his staff and the BSU student-athletes for giving their time to help out with this year's clinic.
"In previous clinics, Mike has always been willing to give of his time. Mike was the recipient of our Collegiate Scholastic Award in 2022, and has been a long-time supporter of high school swimming and diving in Massachusetts," noted Mr. King. "This year, however, Coach Caruso helped even more. When we needed 'live swimmers' to use for demonstration purposes, Coach Caruso was instantly offering to help provide them. These athletes gave up an entire Saturday, were in and out of the pool all day, and truly proved to be an invaluable part of our clinic.
"Mike was also one of the three coaches that participated in our 'coaches roundtable', offering high school coaches invaluable advice and suggestions for their athletes, especially with the college process."
Joining Coach Caruso at the coaches clininc was assistant coach Katie Rogier as well as BSU student-athletes Brendan Goff, Maddy Goldberg, Renee Goodale, Owen Lasbury-Casey, Brianna Matte, Ryan McKenzie, Evelyn Olson, Joseph Pervier and Samantha White.
