Women's Swimming & Diving Tops Gordon, 143-101

WENHAM, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team posted a 143-101 victory over host Gordon College on Tuesday evening at the Bennett Athletic Center.

The visiting Bears even their dual meet record at 3-3, while the Fighting Scots fall to 0-7.

BSU junior Ashley Dunican (Bennington, Vt.) and sophomores Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.), Kristen Carey (East Taunton, Mass.) and Taylor Brochu (Cotuit, Mass.) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The foursome posted a time of 2:03.04.

The Bears would go on to produce the top finisher in eight of the 12 individual events with sophomore Kendra Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) leading the way with a pair of victories.  Perry placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:10.17) and 100 freestyle (1:00.20).

Senior Rhiannon White (Falmouth, Mass.) touched the wall first in both the 100 butterfly (1:08.47) and 50 butterfly (31.10 seconds).  White swam the 50 fly as an exhibition with the Bears well in command of the meet.

Carey and Dunican added individual wins in the 50 freestyle (27.34 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:09.73) events, respectively.  Junior Nelia Borden (Westport, Mass.) took top honors in the 1,000 freestyle (12:23.95), while classmate Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) placed first in the 500 freestyle (5:49.71).

In upcoming action, the Bears entertain Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at one in their final meet of the fall semester.
