WORCESTER, Mass. -- WPI defeated Bridgewater State University, 191-155, in women's swimming and diving action on Saturday afternoon on the Clark University campus. The host Engineers wrap up the dual meet portion of their schedule with a mark of 5-5, while the Bears finish with a 4-11 dual meet record.
Sophomore Kelin Song (Providence, R.I.) racked up three victories for the host Engineers. Song won the 200 backstroke (2:24.40), the 100 butterfly (1:04.12) and the 100 individual medley (1:06.13).
Freshman Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) paced the visiting Bears with a pair of wins in the 200 breaststroke (2:42.81) and the 200 individual medley (2:31.59). Sophomore Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) added a top performance in the 1,000 freestyle (11:55.09), while classmate Nelia Borden (Fall River, Mass.) was the first to touch the wall in the 500 freestyle (5:56.08).
The Engineers are off next week but they will return to action Friday, February 17th through Sunday, February 19th when they travel to the NEWMAC conference championships. Bridgewater State will participate in the NEISDA Division II/III Swimming Championships that same weekend.
