Three Bears Named to All-MASCAC Women's Basketball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. –Bridgewater State University senior guards Michaela Cosby and Elisha Homich along with junior forward Megan Boutilette have been selected to the 2012-2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference Team. Cosby and Homich garnered first team honors while Boutilette was voted to the second team by the league’s coaches.

Cosby has been named to the All-MASCAC First team for the second straight season, while both Homich and Boutilette are making their first appearance on the all-conference team.

In 22 games this season, Cosby is averaging 10.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 steals while shooting 50.6% (127-251) from the floor and 71.1% (59-83) at the free throw line.  The Walpole, Massachusetts native ranks third in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and assist to turnover ratio (1.5), seventh in scoring, eighth in free throw shooting, assists and steals, and tenth in rebounding.

In 98 games over four seasons with the Bears, Cosby has amassed 1,030 points, 546 rebounds, 249 assists and 215 steals.  She became the 15th player in BSU women’s basketball history to reach the 1,000-point milestone and presently ranks 11th all-time in scoring.

Homich has played and started all 24 games this season and is currently averaging 13.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.7 steals while shooting 36.8% (50-136) from three-point range.  The Ludlow, Massachusetts product leads the MASCAC in free throw shooting and ranks second in both three-point field goal percentage and assists.  She is also fifth in the circuit in assist to turnover ratio (1.2), eighth in scoring and ninth in steals.

In 76 games over three plus seasons with Bears, Homich has accumulated 759 points, 233 rebounds, 285 assists and 179 steals.  She is also a career 38% (104-274) shooter from behind the arc. Homich and teammate Jenna Williamson (36.7%) are presently well above Kim Mooney's (1991-94) all-time BSU three-point shooting mark of 33.0% (101-for-306).

In 24 games this season including 23 starts, Boutilette is averaging 12.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 3.9 steals and 1.5 blocks.  The Charlton, Massachusetts native is second among the Division III leaders with a 588 field goal percentage (130-221), and also ranks 17th in the nation with her 3.9 steals per game.

Boutilette currently leads the MASCAC in field goal percentage and steals.  She also ranks third in both rebounding and blocked shots and 11th in scoring.  Her 93 steals are second only to Melissa Murphy’s single-season program mark of 106 set in 2005-2006.

In 78 career games over her first three seasons with the Bears, Boutilette has amassed 753 points, 600 rebounds, 161 assists, 233 steals and 83 blocked shots.  She is also a career 53.5% (313-for-585) shooter from the floor.

Boutilette is presently ahead of Bridgewater State Hall of Famer Cathy Baker’s (1982-85) all-time team field goal percentage mark of 51.2%.  She is also just one of five players in BSU women’s basketball history to reach the 600-rebound milestone.

Under the guidance of MASCAC Co-Coach of the Year, Bridgett Casey, the BSU women’s basketball team captured their fourth MASCAC title in the last six years.  The Bears completed the 2012-2013 regular season with an 11-1 conference record and an overall mark of 21-3.  The Bears, who reached the 20-win plateau for the third time in the Casey era, are the top seed for the MASCAC Tournament and will host fourth-seeded Framingham State in a semifinal round game on Thursday night at seven.
