Michaela Cosby Named to D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region First Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior guard Michaela Cosby has been selected to the D3hoops.com Women’s All-Northeast Region First Team.

Cosby is the Bears’ first D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region First Team selection since Colleen Feeney in 2007-2008.

Players were nominated for the 12th Annual D3hoops.com All-Region Teams by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools.  There were 729 players nominated nationwide, a new high. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region. Regions that have fewer than 40 Division III teams have two teams. The Northeast, which is nearly twice that size, has four teams, while all other regions have three teams.

Cosby averaged 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.8 steals in 25 games this season as she helped lead the BSU women's basketball team to their second straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season title and third consecutive MASCAC Tournament title.  The Walpole, Massachusetts native also shot 50.7% (150-296) from the field and 71.4% (75-105) at the free throw line for the Bears who made their third straight trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Cosby ranked third in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and assist to turnover ratio (1.3), and fourth in assists.  She also finished sixth in the conference in scoring, eighth in steals, ninth in free throw shooting and tenth in rebounds.

A two-time All-MASCAC First Team selection (2012, 2013), Cosby amassed 1,092 points, 563 rebounds, 262 assists, 226 steals and 47 blocked shots over 101 career games.  She ranks seventh all-time in BSU women's basketball history with her 1,092 points.

The BSU women's basketball team posted a record of 23-4 in 2012-2013 with an 11-1 mark in MASCAC play.  The 23 victories marked the second highest single-season win total in program history.

Last week, Cosby was named an ECAC Division III New England First Team All-Star and was chosen to play in the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior All-Star Classic.  The NEWBA All-Star game will take place at Western New England University on Saturday, March 23 at 1:00 PM.
