Cosby Named MASCAC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior guard Michaela Cosby has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week. Cosby shares this week’s honor along with Fitchburg State sophomore forward Amy Fahey.
A native of Walpole, Massachusetts, Cosby averaged 21.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 blocks and 2.7 steals while shooting 59.5% (22-37) from the floor and 76% (19-25) at the free throw line in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears.
Cosby notched 18 points, seven boards, three assists, two blocks and three steals in a 64-61 MASCAC win on the road at Framingham. She then registered a career-high 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting to go along with six rebounds, a block and three steals in a 72-67 non-conference triumph over Western Connecticut State. Michaela capped off the week with 16 points, six caroms, three assists, a block and two steals in a 72-67 MASCAC road victory at Westfield.
Through 21 games this season, Cosby is averaging 14.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.7 steals per game while shooting 51% (109-212) from the floor and 78% (80-103) at the charity stripe. She currently ranks third in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and free throw shooting, fifth in scoring and steals, and eighth in minutes played and blocked shots (0.7 bpg).
In 70 games over three seasons at Bridgewater State, Michaela has accumulated 660 points, 388 rebounds, 153 assists and 139 steals. Her career averages stand at 9.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.98 steals per game, and she is also a career 51% shooter.
The Bridgewater State women’s basketball team is currently 15-6 on the season and 8-1 in MASCAC play. The Bears, who stand alone atop the conference standings, have won six straight games and ten of their last 11.
In upcoming action, Bridgewater will host MASCAC rival Worcester State University on Saturday afternoon at 3:30.
