BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior right-hander Amber White has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week.
A native of Middleboro, Massachusetts, White went 3-0 in the circle for the Bears last week with three complete games and two shutouts. She allowed just one run (unearned) on eight hits in 23 innings of work while striking out 11.
White tossed a complete-game, one-hitter with five strikeouts in a 1-0 MASCAC win over Worcester State, and allowed one unearned run on three hits with no walks and three strikeouts in a complete game, 2-1 victory over sixth ranked Tufts University. White, who also hurled two scoreless innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts versus the Jumbos, capped off the week by recording a complete-game, four-hit shutout with two strikeouts in the Bears’ 3-0 MASCAC win at Salem State.
In 17 appearances this season, White is 10-5 with 15 complete games and six shutouts. She also posts an impressive 0.81 earned run average and has fanned 91 batters while walking just 12 in 112 2/3 innings of work.
White leads the MASCAC in complete games and innings pitched, and is tied for the conference lead in games started. She is second in the circuit in wins and ERA, and is fourth in both strikeouts and appearances. White also ranks in the top twenty in all of Division III in ERA and fewest walks allowed.
In two seasons with the Bears, White has compiled a record of 26-11 with 223 strikeouts, 34 complete games and 12 shutouts with a 1.34 ERA. She has hurled 272 1/3 innings over 46 appearances with 38 starts.
The BSU softball team is currently 17-13 on the season and tied for first in the MASCAC standings with a 7-3 conference mark. The Bears, who have won five of their last six games, travel to Mass. Maritime Academy on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Buccaneers in a conference twinbill starting at 3:30.
