Allie LeBlanc Named Interim Head Softball Coach

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University Director of Athletics, Dr. Marybeth Lamb, announced today that former BSU standout student-athlete, Allie LeBlanc, has been named as the Bears’ interim head softball coach.

LeBlanc replaces former head coach, Lori Salvia, who resigned due to personal reasons on Monday.  Salvia guided the Bears to a record of 125-90 in five plus seasons with the team beginning in 2008.  The Bears captured Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament in each of her first two seasons (2008, 2009).

"I am extremely confident in Allie's abilities to guide the team through the season and lead them to success both on the field and off,” said Lamb.

LeBlanc, who has served as an assistant coach on the staff for the past three plus seasons, batted .390 with 12 home runs, 41 doubles, 109 runs scored and 125 RBI during an outstanding four-year collegiate career with the Bears from 2006 to 2009.  She ranks third all-time at BSU in batting, at bats (502) and singles (142).  She also holds the school record for longest hitting streak as she fashioned together a 26-game streak during her sophomore season of 2007.

One of the top centerfielders in program history, LeBlanc put together a terrific senior campaign in 2009 as she batted .475 with five home runs, 13 doubles, 38 runs scored and 47 RBI.  She also posted a .705 slugging percentage and a .522 on base percentage.  LeBlanc's .475 batting average was the third highest in team history.

During her career, LeBlanc garnered ECAC and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-New England honors three times (2007-2009) and was a three-time All-MASCAC First Team selection (2007-2009).  She was also named to the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA) Division III All-New England First Team in both 2007 and 2009.

The BSU softball team posted a record of the 3-5 during their spring break trip to Fort Myers, Florida last week.  The Bears will return to the diamond on Friday afternoon when they host Clark University in a non-conference twinbill beginning at three o’clock from Alumni Park.
