Michaela Ferreira Named MASCAC Softball Co-Player of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior second baseman Michaela Ferreira has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Co-Player of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior second baseman Michaela Ferreira has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Co-Player of the Week. Ferreira shares the weekly honor along with sophomore Brittany Dussault of Westfield State.
Ferreira, who hails from Fall River, Massachusetts, Ferreira batted .533 (8-15) and posted a .682 on base percentage in six games for the Bears last week. She also doubled, tripled, stole two bases, scored five runs and drove in five.
Bridgewater went 5-1 against MASCAC opponents on the week including a doubleheader sweep at MCLA on Sunday which secured the fourth seed for the Bears in the upcoming MASCAC Tournament.
Ferreira went 3-for-4 with four walks, a triple, two stolen bases, three runs scored and three RBI in a MASCAC sweep of Mass. Maritime. She reached safely three times in eight plate appearances in a conference split with Salem. Ferreira capped off the week with a 4-for-6 performance with a double, two runs and two RBI in the MASCAC sweep of the Trailblazers.
Through 36 games for the Bears this season, Ferreira is currently batting .370 (34-92) with five doubles, two triples, 17 walks, 13 runs scored and 23 runs batted in. She is also sporting a .491 on base percentage as well as a .467 slugging percentage.
Ferreira ranks third among the MASCAC leaders in on base percentage, fourth in RBI and fifth in batting average. She is also tied for fifth in the conference in both hits and walks.
In 105 games over three seasons at Bridgewater State, Ferreira has posted a career batting average of .328 (84-256) with 13 doubles, five triples, a home run, 15 stolen bases, 42 runs scored and 51 RBI. As a freshman in 2009 she earned All-MASCAC First Team honors as a utility player.
After Monday’s non-conference doubleheader with UMass Dartmouth, the Bridgewater State softball team (16-20, 8-6 MASCAC) will travel to top-seeded Westfield State on Thursday afternoon (3:30) to take on the Owls in the opening game of the MASCAC Tournament.
