Michaela Ferreira Named MASCAC Softball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior infielder Michaela Ferreira has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player of the Week.

Ferreira batted .519 (14-27) with ten runs batted in over the Bears' first 12 games of the season.  The Fall River, Massachusetts native also stole three bases, walked six times and was hit by a pitch twice as she posted a .629 on base percentage.

During the Bears' ten-game trip to Fort Myers, Florida, Ferreira went 12-for-23 at the plate including a 4-for-4 effort against Ohio Wesleyan and a 2-for-4, three RBI performance against New Jersey City.  She also went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and two RBI in 7-2 win over Bethany Lutheran.

In 81 games over three seasons at Bridgewater State, Ferreira has a career batting average of .335 (64-191) with nine doubles, three triples, a home run, 31 runs scored and 38 runs batted in.  As a freshman in 2009, she was named to the All-MASCAC First Team as a utility player.

The Bridgewater State softball team is currently 5-7 on the young season.  The Bears will travel to Wheaton College on Tuesday afternoon for a three o'clock doubleheader with the Lyons.
