Meghan Dunn Named MASCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University sophomore Meghan Dunn has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Dunn, who hails from Colchester, Connecticut, went 3-0 with a save last week as she struck out 14 batters and posted a 0.90 earned run average in 23 1/3 innings over five appearances.

Bridgewater went 5-1 against MASCAC opponents on the week including a doubleheader sweep at MCLA on Sunday which secured the fourth seed for the Bears in the upcoming MASCAC Tournament.

Dunn went the distance and struck out ten in a 15-1 MASCAC win over Mass. Maritime.  The Colchester, Connecticut native also gave up just two runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings with no walks and a pair of strikeouts in a 3-2 conference win over Salem State. Dunn added two perfect innings of relief in a 3-1 game two loss to the Vikings.

In the sweep of MCLA, Dunn got the win in the opener and picked up her first save of the season in game two.  She allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts in a 4-2 win over the Trailblazers. Dunn also hurled 2 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the save in the Bears' 2-1 victory in the nightcap.

In 127 innings over 22 appearances for the Bears this season, Dunn is currently sporting a record of 11-6 with 80 strikeouts and a 2.81 earned run average. She leads the MASCAC in innings pitched and ranks second in appearances, third in complete games (12) and sixth in both earned run average and strikeouts. Dunn is also tied for second in the conference in games started and tied for third in wins.

After Monday’s non-conference doubleheader with UMass Dartmouth, the Bridgewater State softball team (16-20, 8-6 MASCAC) will travel to top-seeded Westfield State on Thursday afternoon (3:30) to take on the Owls in the opening game of the MASCAC Tournament.
