John O’Leary was named the assistant coach of the Bridgewater State cross country and track & field programs in August of 2021. He and his wife Debbie have three daughters Erin, Lindsey, and Bridget. Erin and Lindsey are recent graduates of Bridgewater State University.
O’Leary, who hails from Hanover, Massachusetts, is a 1981 graduate of SUNY Cortland where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a coaching major. He earned his Master of Science in Business Management degree from Lesley University in 1991. He was a varsity member of Cortland’s Cross Country and Track & Field program. In December 2021, he received a Masters in Coaching from Bridgewater State University. He will complete a second Masters in Strength & Conditioning at Bridgewater State by May of 2023.
John is a past marathon winner of the Aruba Marathon, Lake Placid Marathon, Dutchess County Marathon and Cape Cod Marathon winner (2X). He was a podium finisher at the Yonkers Marathon (5X), Bermuda Marathon (2nd place) and Empire State Games marathon (4X). His best marathon time was 2 hours 20 minutes accomplished twice. John has placed highly and or won many local road race competitions throughout the North East. He has also been involved in organizing and training for several post collegiate training groups of runners.
In addition, John has been a successful account rep for Toshiba Corporation since 2005. He is President Clubs winner (15x) in sales overachievement. In addition, O’Leary holds a DTM Achievement Award from International Toast Masters from 2005.
John's interests, besides spending time with family and friends, include reading, gardening, playing music, kayaking and being outdoors.
