Michael McPherson Garners Fourth MASCAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week Honor

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the fourth time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Michael McPherson has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

McPherson led the Bears to a fourth place showing at the Tufts Stampede this past weekend as he won the shot put event and finished third in the weight throw.  The Mansfield, Massachusetts native posted a distance of 54 feet, 5.50 inches (16.60 meters) in the shot put and 50 feet, 9.25 inches (15.47 meters) in the weight throw.

McPherson broke his own school record in the shot put earlier this season at the UMass Boston Invitational and again the following week at the Harvard Open.  His mark of 55 feet, 8.50 inches (16.98 meters) currently ranks fourth in all of Division III for the 2012-2013 campaign.

In addition to his indoor shot put record, McPherson also presently holds BSU outdoor marks in the shot put (55'7.50") and hammer throw (172'2.00"). During the spring 2012 outdoor season, he earned All-America honors in the shot put by placing eighth at the NCAA Division III Championships in Claremont, California.

The indoor season continues for McPherson and the BSU men's track and field team on Saturday (Feb. 9) when the Bears compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine.
