Michael McPherson Named MASCAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University senior Michael McPherson has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

McPherson broke his own school record in the shot put for the second time in as many weeks as he recorded a distance of 55 feet, 8.50 inches (16.98 meters) to finish second (first among collegiate competitors) in the event at the Harvard Open. The Mansfield, Massachusetts native eclipsed his previous mark of 53 feet, 9.25 inches set just last week. McPherson also finished tenth in the weight throw with a toss of 51 feet, 11.25 inches.

In addition to his indoor shot put record, McPherson also currently holds school outdoor marks in the shot put (55'7.50") and hammer throw (172'2.00"). During the spring 2012 outdoor season, he earned All-America honors in the shot put by placing eighth at the NCAA Division III Championships in Claremont, California.

The indoor season continues for McPherson and the BSU men's track and field team on January 19th when the Bears compete at the Wheaton Invitational.
