BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University sophomore Brian Espinosa has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
A native of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, Espinosa placed first in three individual events and one relay to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track and field team at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational held on Saturday at cold and windy Swenson Field.
Espinosa captured top honors in the 100-meter dash (11.05), 200-meter dash (22.67) and the long jump (6.83 meters) while also running a leg of the Bears’ winning 4 x 100 relay (43.80). He qualified for three postseason meets (ECAC, DIII New Englands, NEICAAA) in both the 100 and long jump.
During the indoor track and field season, Espinosa garnered All-ECAC and Division III All-New England honors in the 200-meter dash and long jump. He already owns BSU individual indoor marks in both the long jump (22’9.00”) and 200 (22.17) as well as the 4 x 200 relay (1:29.45).
The outdoor season continues for Espinosa and the BSU men’s track and field team as the Bears travel to Tufts University on Saturday for the Snowflake Classic.
