BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University freshman Wesley Esthimer has been selected as both the Little East Conference Player and Rookie of the Week.
Esthimer helped Bridgewater State raise its unbeaten streak to four matches with a 3-0 record at top flight singles in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears. He posted a trio of straight sets victories over his opponents from Johnson & Wales, Wheelock and Curry.
Esthimer also teamed with senior Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, Mass.) to register a 2-0 mark at top flight doubles. The Bears’ top doubles tandem won 8-0 versus JWU and 8-1 against Curry.
In four matches this season, Esthimer is undefeated in both singles (4-0) and doubles (3-0) play.
A native of Franklin, Massachusetts, Esthimer comes to Bridgewater State via Franklin High School where he was a Hockomock League All-Star during his junior and seniors seasons competing on the Panthers' tennis team.
The BSU men’s tennis team (4-0) travels to Wheaton College on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Lyons at 4:30.
