NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team blanked visiting Bridgewater State, 9-0, in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Wednesday.
With the victory, the Corsairs clinched the LEC regular season title for the second year in a row and will host post-season conference action as long as they continue to win.
After sweeping the doubles, UMass Dartmouth got a come-from-behind win at number one singles. Junior Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA) overcame a 5-1 first set deficit to post a 7-5, 6-2 straight set decision. Junior Guillaume Cotte (Grenoble, France) was victorious at number two singles, 6-2, 6-2; while seniors Brian Lui (Medfield, MA) and Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA), junior Mike Parker (Scituate, MA) and sophomore Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, MA) also won in straight sets at the third through sixth flights, respectively.
The Corsairs improved to 10-2 on the season and 5-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory. UMass clinched the LEC regular season championship for the second straight year and the top seed in next week's conference tournament. The Bears dropped to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Western Connecticut State on Saturday. Bridgewater will visit UMass Boston also on Saturday.
