Men's Tennis Opens 2012 Campaign with 9-0 Win over Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team opened the 2012 season with a 9-0 victory over host Anna Maria College on Saturday at the Paxton Sports Center.

The Bears (1-0) captured all six singles flights in straight sets and won all three doubles matches to cruise to the non-conference triumph over the AMCATS (0-1).

BSU freshman Wesley Esthimer (Franklin, Mass.) posted a 6-0, 6-2 straight set victory at first singles in his collegiate debut and teamed with senior Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, Mass.) for an 8-5 triumph at first doubles.  Zagame added a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles.

Freshman Sean Bleau (North Dighton, Mass.) also had a successful debut for the Bears as he grabbed a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory at number three singles and paired with sophomore Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) for an 8-3 decision at second doubles.  Gotlib breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth flight singles.

Junior Michael Kofman (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) and sophomore Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) posted an 8-1 triumph at third doubles.  Kofman added a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number four singles, while Farrell won 6-1, 6-0 at the sixth flight.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Johnson and Wales University on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Wildcats at 3:30.
