Corey Batista Named MASCAC Co-Pitcher of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior Corey Batista has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior Corey Batista has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week. Batista shares the weekly honor along with senior Tommy Lindberg of Framingham State.
Batista, who hails from Fall River, Massachusetts, tossed a complete game two-hit shutout and near no-hitter in a 7-0 MASCAC win over Salem State. Batista gave up just two infield singles, walked one and struck out four as he stretched his scoreless inning streak to 22 1/3 innings.
Bridgewater went 5-1 against MASCAC opponents on the week including doubleheader sweeps of Salem and MCLA over the weekend which secured the third seed for the Bears in the upcoming MASCAC Tournament.
In 52 innings over nine appearances for the Bears this season, Batista is sporting a record of 5-2 with seven complete games, four shutouts, 60 strikeouts and a 1.21 earned run average. He leads the MASCAC in complete games, shutouts, strikeouts and ERA, and ranks second in opponent’s batting average against (.207) and fifth in innings pitched. Batista is also tied for second in the conference in wins.
This marks the second time this season that Batista has been selected as the MASAC Co-Pitcher of the Week as he also earned the honor back on March 21st.
The Bridgewater State baseball team (20-14, 9-5 MASCAC) will travel to second-seeded Worcester State on Thursday night (7:00) to take on the Lancers in the first oundof the MASCAC Tournament.
