Corey Batista Named MASCAC Co-Pitcher of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior right-hander Corey Batista has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week. Batista shares the honor along with Mass. Maritime Academy sophomore Tyler Genereux.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior right-hander Corey Batista has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week. Batista shares the honor along with Mass. Maritime Academy sophomore Tyler Genereux.
Batista posted a record of 1-1 with a 1.06 earned run average in three appearances for the Bears over the first ten games of the season. He also fanned 22 batters and walked just five in 17 innings of work.
During Bridgewater's trip to Vero Beach, Florida, Batista tossed a complete game, five-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in 5-0 win over Muhlenberg College. He also hurled three solid innings of relief in 15-14 victory over Salve Regina as he gave up one unearned run, walked one and struck out six.
Batista also pitched well for the Bears in a 3-0 home loss to Husson University as he went the distance giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
Last season, Batista helped Massasoit capture the Massachusetts Community College Athletic Conference tournament championship and advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association New England Regional Tournament.
Batista and the BSU baseball team will return to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon when the Bears host UMass Dartmouth at 3:30 PM from Alumni Park. Bridgewater is currently 5-5 on the young season.
