BSC Sweeps Weekend Matchup with Endicott
The Bears headed to Endicott College on Saturday to take on the division rival. BSC started out on the wrong foot after giving up a goal and ended the first period trailing 1-0.
Coming out for the second period Endicott had most of the momentum and their home fans behind them. John Cole tied the game at 1 when he scored on a feed from Craig McKinnon and Matt Furtado. Then Mike Logan was able to quiet the home crowd for good when he scored mid way through the period to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.
In the third the Bears pulled away with two goals from Derek Fortuna and one from Corey Maguire. In the end BSC was able to win the game by a final score of 5-3.
On Monday the Bears looked to continue their success when Endicott traveled to the Bridgewater Ice Arena for their second game in three days.
This time BSC scored first after Derek Fortuna was able to score from the right side of the net. The Bears looked to head into the locker room with the lead but with 4 seconds left in the period Endicott was able to tie the score.
In the second period Endicott took the lead 3 minutes into the period when Craig Ward of Endicott was able to score from just inside the blue line. Through out the rest of the period both teams were able to hold each other with out a goal.
Coming into the third period the score was still 2-1 and not only were the Bears at risk of losing two points but also their undefeated record at home. But shortly into the period Ryan Hebert was able to take a pass from Craig McKinnon in front of the net, and beat the Endicott goalie to tie the game up at 2. With just over two minutes remaining and on the penalty kill defensemen Corey Maguire was able to break up a play in Endicott's zone and just barely get the puck past the goal line for a 3-2 lead.
That would be all the Bears needed as they were able to hold off a heavy offensive threat by Endicott in the final minute. BSC came out of the weekend with 4 very important conference points.
