Women's Track & Field Competes at RCC Tigers Open

BOSTON, Mass. -- Freshman Savana Malo (Milford, Mass.) turned in a sensational performance for the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team Friday.

Competing at the Roxbury Community College Tigers Open at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Malo won one event and finished in the top three in a pair of other events to lead the Bears.

Malo was first in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 3 1/2 inches for the first win of her collegiate career.

In the 200-meter run, Malo came in second with a time of 26.92 seconds, finishing behind Qimora Johnson of Hudson Valley Community College.

Malo took third place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.27 seconds, a race won in 8.13 by Alisha Gomes of Emmanuel College.

Malo was fifth in the preliminary race in 8.26 seconds.

BSU graduate student Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished second in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 3 inches while teammate Chloe Davies (Foxborough, Mass.), a sophomore, was seventh (4 feet, 11 inches).

In the 1,000-meter race, sophomore Olivia Downin (Hudson, Mass.) finished sixth in 3:19.60 while freshman Olivia Pendleton (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) was seventh in 3:21.

Freshman Sophia Morin (Centerville, Mass.) was in ninth place in the shot put (29 feet, 6 3/4 inches).

The BSU 4x400 relay team was first in 5:03.68, a group that included Downin, Pendleton, junior Janelle Murphy (Brockton, Mass.) and graduate student Lisa Jaeger (Halle, Germany).
