Kiara Abrantes Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week, Bridgewater State University senior Kiara Abrantes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week, Bridgewater State University senior Kiara Abrantes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Abrantes captured the meet title and broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash this past weekend at the Division III New England Championships held at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The Somerset, Massachusetts product posted a winning time of 55.35 seconds in the 400 as she eclipsed her previous standard of 55.65 seconds set at the MASCAC Championships.
Abrantes, who also earned All-New England honors in the 200-meter dash with a sixth-place and season-best time of 24.93 seconds, helped the Bears finish seventh in the team standings at the meet with 35 points.
On a national level, Abrantes currently ranks 14th in all of Division III in the 400. She is also first in the East Region in the event.
The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the 15th of Abrantes' career and sixth outdoor distinction.
Qualifying members of the BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete on Friday and Saturday at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by UMass Amherst.
