MEDFORD, Mass. -- Senior Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) set the school record in the 400-meter dash to lead the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team on Saturday at the Tufts Sunshine Classic.
Abrantes captured top honors at the meet in the 400 with a time of 55.70 seconds as she eclipsed the Bears' previous outdoor mark of 55.76 seconds set by Jayci Andrews in 2016.
Abrantes, who currently ranks 13th in all of Division III in the 400, also posted a preliminary and personal-best time of 12.27 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
Freshman Grace Inacio (Taunton, Mass.) won the 100 with a finals and personal-best time of 12.27 seconds. Senior Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) finished fourth in the finals of the 100 with a time of 12.53 seconds after posting a preliminary time of 12.42 seconds.
Graduate student Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) garnered top accolades in the 100-meter hurdles with a finals time of 14.39 seconds. Freshman Madison Root (Rehoboth, Mass.) recorded a preminary time of 14.60 seconds in the 100 hurdles and finished fifth in the event with a finals time of 19.34 seconds.
McDonough is presently 21st in all of Division III in the 100 hurdles.
Senior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) won the high jump with a leap of five feet, 5.25 inches (1.66m). Graduate student Juliana Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) placed second in the high jump while freshman Bella Grover (Warren, Mass.) finsished fifth. They both posted marks of four feet, 11.5 inches (1.51m).
Grover and freshman Jordan Kosakowski (Shirley, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' top-five placewinners. Grover placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.82) while Kosakowski was fifth in the 200-meter dash (28.23).
In upcoming action, the Bears host the MASCAC Championships on Friday, April 25th.
