Women's Track Places Third at MASCAC Championships

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University Bears placed third at the MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Fitchburg State University last Saturday.

The Bears posted a team score of 129 points to finish behind meet champion Westfield State (206 pts) and Worcester State (193 pts.).  MASCAC results were not made official until Thursday morning due to scoring errors in a number of the field events.

Junior Sarah Lagasse (Rehoboth, Mass.) paced the Bears at the meet as she captured a pair of MASCAC individual titles in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 400-meter hurdles.  Lagasse broke her own school record in the steeplechase with a time of 11:49.86, eclipsing her previous mark of 12:12.34.  She posted a winning time of 1:06.99 in the 400 hurdles.

Senior Jessica Eidinger (Sutton, Mass.), junior Co Davis (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshman Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) were also individual event champions for the Bears.  Eidinger placed first in the 800-meter run (2:24.94), Davis in the 400-meter dash (1:00.12) and Chiasson in the discus throw (107'9").

The Bears' 4 x 400 relay team consisting of Lagasse, classmate Molly Rouillard (Dartmouth, Mass.) and freshmen Malgorzata Czerwonka (Billerica, Mass.) and Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass.) placed second in the event and qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships with a time of 4:07.28.

Junior Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow, Mass.) broke her own school mark in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 1.5 inches.  Robitaille, who placed second in the event, surpassed her previous best of 34 feet, 11.25 inches set earlier this season.

Freshman Taylor Robitaille (Ludlow, Mass.) set the school record in the pole vault and placed third at the meet with a height of eight feet, 6.25 inches.  Robitaille broke Whitney Demers 2007 standard of eight feet, three inches.
