BRISTOL, R.I. -- Three Bridgewater State University wrestlers placed third at the Scott Viera Open on Saturday.
Senior Sei Dolomengi (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) went 4-1 in the 125-pound weight class, freshman Ethan Buonanducci (Enfield, Conn.) recorded six straight win after losing his opening match at 133 pounds and freshman Avery Carl (Bridport, Vt.) was third at 157 pounds with a 4-1 mark.
Junior Cqari Bacote (Springfield, Mass.) was a fourth-place finisher for the Bears, going 4-1 out of the 149-pound weight class in a tournament hosted by Roger Williams University.
Seeded second at 125, Dolomengi advanced to the semifinal round by winning his first two matches.
He defeated Aiden Fogarty of Western New England by a major decision, 13-2, and Matthew Frueh of Johnson & Wales University by fall at 4:44 in the quarterfinal round.
Dolomengi then lost in the semifinal round to third-seeded Jackson Heslin of Green Farms Academy of Connecticut by fall at 2:20.
In the consolation rounds, Dolomengi won an 11-2 major decision over Fogarty in a rematch and took third place by forfeit.
Buonanducci, who was the top seed at 133, improved to 19-7 on the season with his 6-1 performance.
He was defeated in the opening round by Hughes Patrick of New England College by technical fall at 6:58.
Buonanducci then rebounded in the consolation round with the six consecutive wins.
He won over teammate Jack Sullivan (Natick, Mass.) by fall at 31 seconds and won by fall at 3:36 over Dan Hickey of Roger Williams.
Buonanducci stopped another BSU teammate, Adam Distasio (Hopkinton, Mass.) by fall at 5:07 and won over Jack Francis of Green Farms Academy by medical forfeit.
His last two wins were over Griffin Norwalt of Vermont State Castleton by fall at 2:44 and by a 6-0 decision over Jahi Aguiliar of Johnson & Wales.
Carl, who was unseeded, advanced to the semifinal round with a win over #4 seed Blake Sastre of Vermont State Castleton by fall at 1:29 and over Jonathan Fabrizio of Roger Williams by fall at 2:10.
He lost a semifinal-round match to top-seeded Vincent Faldetta of Johnson & Wales by a 7-1 decision.
In the consolation rounds, Carl was a 9-7 decision winner over Landon Gray of Johnson & Wales and won by fall at 1:47 over Jacob Jones of Green Farms Academy.
Bacote, who was the top seed at 149, won his first two bouts to reach the semifinal round, winning by a 7-2 decision over Gavin McKenna of Roger Williams and by a 9-8 decision over Christopher Melo, who was unattached.
In the semifinal round, Bacote lost by a 12-2 major decision to fourth-seeded Jared Spahn of Johnson & Wales.
Bacote won twice in the consolation rounds, earning an 11-4 decision over #3 seed Connor MacDonald (unattached-Sacred Heart University) and then #6 seed Luke Montefusco of Johnson & Wales.
BSU is idle until Jan. 10 when it will host a tri-match with Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Wesleyan at noon.
