Chrispin, Hopkins, Curley Lead Wrestling at BSU Quad

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team wrapped up the dual meet portion of the schedule by hosting a quad meet on Friday night at John J. Kelly Gymnasium.

The Bears (4-13) went 0-3 at the meet with a 26-17 loss to Rhode Island College, a 27-17 setback to Division II American International College, and a 33-12 loss to Trinity College.

RIC was ranked seventh in the most recent New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Team Tournament Rankings while Trinity was tied for 13th.

Junior 141-pounder Malcolm Chrispin (Hyde Park, Mass.) and senior 174-pounder Michael Hopkins (Swampscott, Mass.) each went 3-0 on the evening to lead the way for Bridgewater State while sophomore 197-pounder Christian Curley posted a 2-1 mark.

Chrispin earned an 13-2 major decision over RIC's Sebastian Armstrong and posted an 8-1 decision against AIC's Aaron Morocho. Chrispin, who improved to 17-9 on the season, wrapped up the day with a 4-1 win over Trinity's Ty Trickle. Trickle was ranked fourth out of the 133-pound weight class in the most recent NEWA Individual Rankings.

Hopkins opened his day with an 11-2 major decision against Juan Rodriguez of RIC. He added a 7-4 decision over Markys Lissaint of AIC and an 8-1 win over Trinity's Tucker Vician. Hopkins improves to 24-13 on the year as he leads the Bears in wins.

Curley picked up his team-leading 12th and 13th pins of the campaign. He pinned Christian Sewell of RIC with nine seconds remaining in the third pin and picked up another first-period (2:19) win ball fall over Trinity's Booker Lester Jr.. Curley is now 23-9 on the season.

Junior 125-pounder Sei Dolomengi (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), sophomore 157-pounder Jack Janes (Avon, Mass.) and freshman heavyweight Mathew Piper (Townsend, Mass.) also earned wins for the Bears. Dolomengi cruised to a 17-0 technical fall victory over Jack Sullivan of AIC while Janes downed RIC's Cooper Lavigne, 7-0. Piper won by forfeit against AIC.

In upcoming action, several members of the BSU wrestling team will compete on Sunday, February 25th at the NEWA Futures Tournament hosted by Western New England University.
