SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University wrestling team placed eighth (76 pts.) out of 15 teams at the Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.
Sophomore heavyweight Ryan Higgins (Billerica, Mass.), sophomore 184-pounder Edwin Morales (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior 197-pounder Henry Oberlander (Mansfield, Mass.) each finished in second place in their respective weight classes.
Higgins went 4-1 on the day with a pair of pins including a win by fall (4:00) over Tyson Jones of Springfield College in the semifinals. Higgins lost by fall (6:39) to #5 ranked Patrick Irwin of Coast Guard in the finals.
Morales went 4-1 with a pin at the tournament as he knocked off Josh Smith of Southern Maine in the semifinals, 10-4, before dropping a 13-8 decision to #9 ranked Paul Detwiler of Coast Guard in the championship bout.
Oberlander went 3-1 with a 7-2 semifinal round victory over Sol Demers of Southern Maine. Oberlander dropped a tough 5-4 decision to Jeremy Berson of Coast Guard in the championship match.
Junior Fox Maxwell (Winchester, Mass.) posted a 4-2 record with one pin as he finished in sixth place in the 165-pound bracket.
The Bears are off until Friday, December 6th and Saturday, December 7th when they compete at the prestigious Messiah Petrofes Invitational.
