Women's Lacrosse posts 14-4 MASCAC Win over Salem

SALEM, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 14-4 victory over Salem State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) contest on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field.

The Bears improve to 11-4 on the season and 5-1 in the MASCAC, while the host Vikings slip to 3-13 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Junior attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) paced Bridgewater State with five goals and two assists, while senior midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) potted four goals and freshman attack Katherine Tracy (Marion, Mass.) added three goals and a helper.

Senior attack Mackenzie Manning (Hingham, Mass.) and freshman attack Madison Seeger (Clinton, Conn.) also scored for the Bears who received a game-best three assists from sophomore midfielder Emily Hiller (Marion, Mass.) as well as two from junior attack Hayley White (Dracut, Mass.).

Freshman defender Amanda Bradley (Peabody, Mass.) led Salem State with two goals. Sophomore attack Tara McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) and junior midfielder Rose Sullivan (Charlestown, Mass.) also scored for the Vikings.

Bridgewater State scored the first seven goals of the game and never looked back. The visitors led 8-1 at the break and got up by as many as 11 goals (13-2) in the second half.

The Bears held a 32-16 shot advantage for the game, while the Vikings finished with a slight 11-10 edge in draw controls. Sullivan led all players with four draws.

BSU junior goalkeeper Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) made nine saves to record her 11th victory of the season and 25th of her career. Sophomore Gianna DeNisco (Peabody, Mass.) stopped 11 shots between the pipes for the Vikings.

Along with her seven-point performance, McDonough also recorded a game-high four caused turnovers. Hiller and White each forced three turnovers.

Both teams wrap up regular season and MASCAC play on Saturday. The Bears entertain the Trailblazers of MCLA at six o'clock, while the Vikings travel to Mass. Maritime Academy for a noontime game with the Buccaneers.

Notes: Ettridge now has 198 goals in her career as she closes in on the 200-goal milestone….With her seven-point effort, McDonough increased her career total to 250.
