BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College sophomore goaltender Meghan Griffin and freshman attack Jenny Jones captured New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week honors repectively for their performance last week for the Bears.
Griffin backstopped the Bears to a perfect 3-0 week which included a pair of NEWLA wins over Worcester State and Fitchburg State. Griffin went 3-0 on the week with 21 saves and a 7.60 goals against average.
Jones scored ten goals and added seven ground balls and five draw controls to pace the Bears offensive attack last week.
Through 14 games this season, Griffin has posted a 5-3 record in eight appearance with 64 saves and a 12.00 goals against average.
Jones leads the team in goals with 44 and is third in scoring with 51 points.
BSC (10-4) wrapped up the NEWLA regular season title as they completed the conference schedule with a perfect 7-0 record. The Bears will be the top seed in next week's NEWLA Tournament and will host Westfield State College in semifinal action on Wednesday at 3:30.
