Three Bears Named to All-MASCAC Women's Basketball Team
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior forward Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.), junior forward Michaela Cosby (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore guard Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) have been selected to the 2011-2012 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Basketball All-Conference Team.

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior forward Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.), junior forward Michaela Cosby (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore guard Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) have been selected to the 2011-2012 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Basketball All-Conference Team.
DePina and Cosby earned All-MASCAC First Team honors, while Williamson was voted to the second team by the league’s coaches.
DePina, who is making her fourth consecutive appearance on the All-MASCAC Team, is averaging 13.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.6 blocks in 24 games this season. She is also shooting 41% (118-287) from the floor, 72% (67-93) at the free throw line and 29% (29-101) from three-point range. DePina currently ranks third in the conference in blocks, seventh in scoring, eighth in field goal percentage, ninth in both free throw shooting and three-point percentage, and tenth in rebounding and steals.
Earlier this season, DePina became the 14th player in Bridgewater State women’s basketball history to reach the 1,000-point milestone as she is presently sixth all-time with 1,097 points. DePina is also third at BSU in career rebounds with 682 and has 188 steals and 88 blocked shots to her credit in 98 games.
Named to the All-MASCAC Team for the first time in her career, Cosby has tallied 13.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.6 steals and 0.8 blocked shots per game over the first 24 contests of the season. She ranks fourth in the MASCAC in both field goal and free throw percentage, sixth in steals, eighth in scoring and blocks, an tenth in assists and minutes played (31.5).
In 73 career games over three seasons with the Bears, Cosby has amassed 692 points, 405 rebounds, 164 assists and 146 steals.
Williamson, who is also making her first appearance on the all-conference team, is averaging 13.3 points 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 24 games in 2011-2012 while shooting 41% (114-281) from the floor, 75% (45-60) at the charity stripe and 34% (46-137) from behind the arc. She leads the MASCAC in minutes played (853) and ranks fourth in three-point percentage and made trifectas (46), sixth in assists and tenth in both scoring and field goal percentage.
In 51 games over her first two seasons, Williamson has totaled 563 points, 194 rebounds and 146 assists. She has connected on 89 three-pointers including 43 as a freshman in 2010-2011 when she set the program record for three-point shooting percentage (.398).
The Bridgewater State women’s basketball team is currently 17-7 on the season with a 10-2 mark in MASCAC play. Bridgewater captured the program’s third conference regular season title in the last five years and fifth overall. The top-seeded Bears, who are 11-1 at home, will host Worcester State in the MASCAC Tournament semifinals on Friday at 5:30 PM.
