12 Bears Earn NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Honors
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Twelve members of the 2021 Bridgewater State University softball team have been named Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2020-2021 academic year.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Twelve members of the 2021 Bridgewater State University softball team have been named Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Seniors Alexandra Ruprecht (Kingston, Mass.) and Madison Synan (Quincy, Mass.); juniors Emma Healy (Plymouth, Mass.), Kelley Reichert (Milford, Mass.), Kim Scanlon (Medford, Mass.) and Megan Sharon (East Longmeadow, Mass.); sophomores Madison Dana (Lynn, Mass.) and Olivia Silva (Somerset, Mass.); and freshmen Morgan Cournoyer (Burrillville, R.I.), Janet Jolly (Raynham, Mass.), Ava Novakoski (Auburn, Mass.) and Molly Thibaudeau (Lincoln, R.I.) each earned the honor for the Bears.
The Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete program recognizes the academic prowess of softball student-athletes across the Association’s membership categories. Over 8,800 student-athletes (8,831), the highest in NFCA history, received the honor. NCAA Division III led the way with 2,375 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade point average or higher for the 2020-2021 academic year. NCAA Division I and Division II followed with 1,982 and 1,727 honorees, respectively. High School weighted and High School unweighted earned a combined 1,510 distinctions. NAIA and two-year programs each amassed 1,237 recipients.
The BSU softball team was also recognized as one of 127 Division III programs to post a team GPA of 3.00 or higher. The Bears' team GPA for the 2020-2021 academic year was an impressive 3.605 which ranked 45th in all of Division III.
