BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore designated player Madison Dana has been selected to the 2020-2021 Academic All-District® One Division III Softball Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Dana and teammate Alexandra Ruprecht are the first members of the Bridgewater State softball program to earn the CoSIDA Academic All-District® accolade since Amber White garnered back-to-back honors in 2013 and 2014. All told, six different softball Bears have garnered the accolade since 2002 including Michaela Ferreira (2011, 2012), Katie Holbrook (2007) and Kim Olson (2004).
Of the 12 District One honorees, Dana and Ruprecht are the only two student-athletes from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) to be voted to the team. District One is comprised of Massachusetts and Maine.
To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late July.
A native of Lynn, Massachusetts, Dana currently sports an impressive 3.72 grade point average and is majoring in elementary education and sociology. She is also in the dual licensure program for special education. Dane was named to the Dean's List in each of her of first four semesters at Bridgewater State and is a two-time Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Winter/Spring All-Academic Team selection.
Dana batted .250 (13-52) in 20 games for the Bears in 2021 with three doubles, a pair of home runs, eight runs scored and nine RBI. She also posted a .423 slugging percentage and a .328 on base percentage.
Dana, who was named an All-MASCAC Second Team selection, helped the BSU softball team captured the 2021 MASCAC Tournament title and earn a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Bears (17-11-1) competed at the NCAA Division III Seguin, Texas Regional hosted by Texas Lutheran University.
