BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fourth straight week and sixth time this season, Bridgewater State University graduate student Kevin McBirney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
McBirney broke his own school record in the 800-meter run this past weekend at the Saucony Battle For Boston held at Boston University. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts product and only DIII runner in the event finished 14th with a time of 1:51.02 eclipsing his previous indoor standard of 1:51.79 established earlier this season at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic. The meet featured predominantly Division I and track club athletes.
McBirney currently ranks seventh in all of Division III in the 800 and second in the East Region.
The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the 23rd of McBirney's career including 15 indoor distinctions. He has also earned MASCAC Runner of the Week accolades nine times as a cross country student-athlete.
Qualifying members of the BSU men's indoor track & field team will compete on Sunday at the Division III New England Championships held at The Track at New Balance.
