Men's Track & Field Competes at Tufts Spring Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Two members of the Bridgewater State University men's outdoors track & field team placed in the top five of the 400-meter race at the Tufts Spring Invitational.

Freshman Sean Venator (Manchester, N.H.) was third while sophomore Joshua Cardichon (Brockton, Mass.) was fifth in the race at the Ellis Oval/Zimman Field/Dussault Track Saturday.

Venator had a personal-best time of 50.88 seconds and was behind only senior Cameron McLeod of Tufts (49.86) and sophomore Zane Gordon of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (50.39).

Cardichon posted a PR time of 51.06 for his fifth-place finish.

The Bears had three sprinters in the top 12 of the 100-meter dash.

Senior Javon Epps (Brockton, Mass.) took fifth place with a time of 10.97 seconds followed by senior Dasean Peters-Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.), who was sixth in 10.98, and junior Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.), who was 12th in 11.20.

Freshman Jaiden Jackson (Newton, Mass.) finished seventh in the long jump (20'9.75"/) while teammate Chris Beaulieu (Monson, Mass.), a senior, was eighth (20'7.25"/).

Junior Aydan Fournier (Assonet, Mass.) had a top 10 finish, placing eighth in the 800 with a time of 1:56.16.

In the 200, Peters-Wolfe placed ninth in a PR of 22.26 seconds followed by Mooney, who was 10th in 22.30, and Cardichon, who was 12th in 22.33.

The 4x400 relay team of Beaulieu, senior Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.), Venator and Cardichon was seventh in 3:35.96.

BSU had two participants in the two-day heptathlon with senior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) finishing 13th and sophomore Drew Alves (Taunton, Mass.) placing 14th, the same positions they were in after the first day Friday.

King, who did score in two events on Saturday, finished with 4,745 points while Alves had 4,703 points.

On Saturday, King was third in the javelin (154'8"/46.99m, 544 pts), fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.82, 753 pts) and 10th in the 1,500 (5:10.90, 499 pts). He fouled in the discus and did not record a height in the pole vault.

Alves was 10th in the 110 hurdles (16.42, 686 pts), 11th in the pole vault (9'10"/3.00m, 357 pts) and 15th in the discus (62'2"/18.94m, 252 pts), the javelin (90'2"/27.49m, 264 pts) and the 1,500 (6:05.36, 243 pts).

Also participating for the Bears were freshman Evan Young (Winchendon, Mass.) and junior Ryan McCarthy (Weymouth, Mass.), who were 14th and 18th, respectively, in the 110 hurdles; Grace and freshman Nate Antoine (Hingham, Mass.), who were 14th and 18th in the 400; Young and sophomore Malachi Chansky (Millis, Mass.), who finished 13th and 15th in the long jump; and freshman Christopher Williams (Burlington, Mass.), who was 15th in the discus.

The BSU Bears Invitational will take place on Friday starting at 10 a.m.
