LEWISTON, Maine -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Drew Alves and senior Ryker King competed in the heptathlon during day one of the Bates Invitational & Multi held at Merrill Gymnasium.
Following the conclusion of Friday's four events, Alves is in sixth place out of a field of 11 heptathletes with a score of 2,159 points while King is in seventh place with 2,071 points.
Alves top event on Friday was the 60-meter dash as he placed second with a time of 7.36 seconds to notch 759 points. The Taunton, Massachusetts product also tallied 577 points in the high jump (5'8.5"/1.74m), 455 points in the long jump (17'7.5"/5.37m) and 368 points in the shot put (26'4.25"/8.03m). He finished fifth in the high jump, sixth in the long jump and tenth in the shot put.
King, who hails from Wareham, Massachusetts, recorded a top score of 706 points in the 60-meter dash as he placed fifth in a time of 7.52 seconds. King also registered 504 points in the high jump (5'5"/1.65m), 453 points in the long jump (17'7"/5.36m) and 408 points in the shot put (28'6.5"/8.70m). He finished eighth in the high jump, seventh in the long jump and ninth in the shot put.
The heptathlon concludes on Saturday (10:30 AM) with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run.
